Other duties could include hazard recognition, fire protection, regulatory compliance, health hazard control, ergonomics, hazardous materials management, environmental protection, training, accident and incident, investigations, advising management, record keeping, emergency response, managing safety programs, product safety and\/or security.<\/p><h2>REQUIREMENTS<\/h2><ol><li>Will have a minimum of a bachelor\u2019s degree in any field or an associate in safety, health, or the environment.*<ul><li>The associate degree must include at least four courses with at least 12 semester hours\/18 quarter hours of study in the safety, health, or environmental domains covered in the ASP examination blueprint.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Will have one (1) year of safety experience where safety is at least 50%, preventative, professional level with breadth and depth of safety duties.<\/li><li>Must pass the ASP examination.<\/li><li>Retain your certification.<ul><li>Pay annual renewal fee<\/li><li>Meet recertification requirements<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol><p class=\"italic\">*When applying for the ASP with a degree from a college outside the United States, that degree will be evaluated for U.S. equivalency. Professional safety experience must meet all of the following criteria to be considered acceptable by BCSP:<\/p><ol><li>Professional safety must be a function of the position<\/li><li>The responsibility must be the prevention of harm to people, property, and the environment, rather than responsibility for responding to harmful events.<\/li><\/ol><h3>Purchase, Schedule, and Sit for the Exam<\/h3><p>Once your application has been approved you may purchase an examination at any time by logging in to \u201cMy Profile\u201d at bcsp.org and clicking on the \u201cPurchase Exam\u201d menu button. You have one (1) year from the approval of your application to purchase and sit for\u00a0examination, and may sit for the\u00a0exam\u00a0at any time after a six (6) week waiting period from your last exam attempt.\u00a0BCSP will notify the examination service that you are an eligible candidate so you may schedule a convenient time to sit for the exam.<\/p><p>BCSP&#8217;s examination service provider,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vue.com\/bcsp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pearson VUE<\/a>, has hundreds of test centers located around the world (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pearsonvue.com\/bcsp\/locate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">locate a test center<\/a>). Pearson VUE test centers are open every business day, some also having weekend and holiday hours. Examinations are delivered via computer at the test center. As soon as candidates submit their exam, official results are available. Candidates who fail may still be eligible to purchase a new examination.<\/p><h3>Pay an Annual Renewal Fee and Meet Recertification Requirements<\/h3><p>After completing all of the requirements, BCSP will award candidates who pass the certification exam the credential. All certifications are awarded on an annual basis and those holding one must pay an annual fee in order to retain the use.
